Waltham, Mass. - Held to their lowest scoring output this season, the no. 3 Adelphi University men's lacrosse program bested no. 17 Bentley University on Tuesday evening, in their penultimate regular season road game, by a 15-3 final decision.
Nine different players found the back of the net for Adelphi (13-1, 8-1 NE10) with
Nicolas Racalbuto leading the way with four goals and one assist, alongside a perfect shot-on-goal percentage.
Gordon Purdie Jr. and
John Arcidiacono also posted multi-goal games, combining for five goals. In between the pipes for the Panthers,
Brendan McDougal logged three quarters of work with 13 saves, before being relieved by
Kevin Rice who finished with four saves.
Justin Napolitano caused an early turnover to put the visiting team back on the offensive in the first frame, making way for
Michael Paccione to get the first goal of the contest, at the 10:33 mark.
Philip Brady wasted no time picking up his second faceoff win and taking it all the way to the goal to put the Panthers up 2-0 nearly a minute later but Bentley (8-3, 6-3 NE10) responded with a tally of their own to cut the deficit in half.
Adelphi continued to find a way past Michael Haggan but the home team was held scoreless through nearly both the second and third frames, as
Brendan McDougal totaled nine saves in the opening half. Arcidiacono was responsible for the last goal of the second and first of the third, bolstering a 10-goal run for the Brown and Gold.
Alex Astarita, Bentley's leading point-scorer was named to the USILA Team of the Week for his efforts last week but was held to a single goal in the Tuesday meeting, as the only Falcon goal in the third. Matt Brooks buried a shot by Rice to open the fourth, but
Quintin McKenna,
Tyler O'Brien and
Jack Purdy all recorded tallies in the fourth quarter to seal the deal for the third-ranked team in the country.
Adelphi will host it's final regular season home game on Saturday, April 20. Prior to opening faceoff at 1:00 p.m., the staff and athletic department will celebrate the accomplishments of the graduation class.
