#2 Women's Lacrosse Opens Up NE10 Play With 16-5 Win at Saint Mike's

Colchester, VT - Alison Johnson matched her career-best point mark Wednesday afternoon, in an Adelphi University women's lacrosse 16-5 win over Saint Michael's College in their Northeast-10 Conference opener.

Not only did the defending NE10 Player of the Year score five goals, she added six assists, three ground balls and two caused turnovers to her stat line. The Panthers (4-0, 1-0 NE10) saw tallies from six other members, with Lena Riportella, Christina McCabe and Alyssa Gillespie scoring four and two, respectively. The Purple Knights (1-1, 0-1 NE10) had Alex Vincent score a team-leading two goals while also adding a helper.

It was the home team that got off to a hot start, scoring two goals in a matter of less than 90 seconds to kick off the league matchup. Johnson's first goal of the half at 28:22 sparked a nine goal run for the visitors, which resulted in a comfortable 9-2 lead once the opening frame came to a close. Gillespie and Christina Ferrara were responsible for back-to-back goals within a minute of each other through the stretch and was capped with Kole Pollock's lone tally of the contest.

Riportella was responsible for the opening goal in the second half, but the home team struck after an Adelphi foul call cutting the lead to seven. Nearly six minutes came and went before either team made any offensive noise, this time back in favor of the Brown and Gold who scored two in a row to push back out to a nine-goal advantage.

Saint Mike's scored their fourth and fifth goals but we halted after their fifth goal at the 12:24 mark. McCabe and and man-up goal from Riportella made running clock ensue with under seven minutes remaining in regulation.

Johnson's final free position goal was the final for either side, resulting in a league opening win for Adelphi.

The team remains on the road and treks to Southern New Hampshire for a 1:00 p.m. contest on Friday, March 15. All the action will be live on NE10 NOW
