Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Pollock Nets Six, Women's Lacrosse Ousts #10 Florida Tech 15-9

Melbourne, Fla. - Behind the stick of Kole Pollock, the no. 2 Adelphi Unversity women's team topped no. 10 Florida Tech, 15-9 in their season opener Thursday evening.

Pollock kicked off her junior campaign by matching her career-high of six goals, converting 2-of-3 free position shots, to lead the pack. Alison Johnson followed suit with five points courtesy of two goals and three assists as Gianna Bifulco notched both her first and second career goals. On the defensive side of the ball, Chelsea Abreu, Alyssa Gillespie and Allison Stackpole each caused three turnovers apiece with Abreu leading with eight draw controls.

Florida Tech (1-2) was first to get on the scoreboard on a successful free position attempt by Sam Schiano. Adelphi rattled off the next seven goals to take a six-goal advantage with less than 10 minutes to go in the half. Stackpole and Pollock were each responsible for man-up tallies in that stretch, with the latter notching a hat trick before the midway point.

At the half, the Brown and Gold still maintained a four-goal lead, but the southern Panthers used two strikes from Aleah Fjelstad to cut the deficit to two. Lena Riportella sparked a four-goal spurt for the visitors to extend their lead and several stops from Emma Lemanski in goal assisted in helping Adelphi earn their first victory in 2019.

Adelphi wraps up their southern tour with a meeting against no. 3 Florida Southern on Sunday, February 24. In their last meeting, the Panthers dropped a 16-17 heartbreaker to open the 2018 season, but followed up the loss with 18 consecutive wins.
