Men's Basketball Earns Hard Fought Win Over SCSU on Senior Night

Garden City, N.Y. – Solidifying a spot in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference tournament, the Adelphi University men's basketball team battled for a regulation81-75 win over Southern Connecticut State University Wednesday evening,  in front of an electric crowd.

After only contributing six points in the opening half, Ronnie Silva finished the contest with 27 points, with the help of six three-pointers.  Nick Cambio and Conor McGuinness, who were honored alongside fellow senior Jack Laffey prior to tip-off, each added three three-pointers apiece, accounting for 22 and 15 points, respectively to help Adelphi (19-8. 13-6 NE10) to their fourth straight win.

For the Owls (16-11, 11-8 NE10) C.J. Seaforth set a new career-mark with 30 points using 11-14 shootinf from the field which included six three-pointers. Kealan Ives was on the brink of fouling out but managed to finish with 23 points.

The Panthers found themselves in an early hole after Southern Connecticut jumped out to a seven-point lead after just over three minutes of action. An 8-2 run in favor of the home team brought them back within one, and although scoring halted over the next three minutes, a single free throw from Denzel Jenoure made it anybody's game.

The Owls did a good job of stringing together a few baskets and responding to any big plays from Adelphi's side, but it was Silva who netted back-to-back three's to keep it even headed into the locker room.

Over the first seven minutes of action in the second half, Adelphi led by at-most seven points but a 9-2 run for the visitors brought it to another deadlock. At 7:05 the Owls managed to work out to an eight-point advantage, however baskets from McGuinness and Cambio swung momentum for good, with under three minutes to play.
The teams traded chances at the charity stripe, but a 7-for-8 performance from the home team aided the resulting 81-75 victory.

Adelphi experiences a bye weekend and returns for their regular season finale on Tuesday, February 26 at American International. The contest is set to tip at 7:30 p.m.
