Reading, Pa. - The Adelphi University bowling team raised its second trophy of the season over the weekend.
Adelphi earned an overall victory at the Kutztown University Golden Bear Classic over two days of competition on Saturday and Sunday, having finished third in the one-day Baker format with a 4-1 record on Friday.
The Panthers logged an overall pinfall of 4,652 on Friday with an average of 186.1, and earned wins over Norfolk State, Walsh, Mount St. Mary's and Morgan State with a loss to St. Francis (Pa.).
The aforementioned Red Flash won Friday's Baker format event with a 4-0 record, 5,066 pins, while Duquesne University was second with 4,729 (189.2 avg., 3-1), and Caldwell University in fourth at 4,590 (183.6, 3-2).
With Saturday's results used for seeding purposes, Adelphi posted another 4-1 mark behind an overall pinfall of 4,760, just 18 pins behind top-seeded LIU Brooklyn. After falling to Chestnut Hill College in Saturday's opening match, the Panthers ran off victories over the host Golden Bears, Coppin State, Duquesne and LIU Brooklyn.Â
Seeded second after Saturday, the Panthers rallied from a 3-1 deficit against the Blackbirds in Sunday's first match, winning by a 4-3 overall final decision, before defeating NJCU in a four-game sweep and LIU once more by a 4-2 final to come out on top of the standings.Â
Rookie
Megan Wehmeier was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts over the weekend, earning Second Team kudos with a frame average of 20.2.Â
The Panthers are back in action over the weekend, as they look to keep their form rolling when they head west to compete in the Lady Jacks Invite hosted by Stephen F. Austin in Dallas.Â
