Julia Strachan went off for a career-best 23 points Wednesday night to propel the No. 15 Adelphi University women's basketball team to a 77-60 win over Molloy College in a pre-holiday tune-up at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City.
Strachan made a career-high-tying six triples in the win. She was one of four Panthers to score in double figures.
Katie Murphy had 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Leonie Edringer totaled 11 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Jess Camarda added 10 points and two assists.
Fallyn Stephens buried a pair of three-pointers in an eight-point night. She also grabbed four rebounds and chipped in four assists and two steals.
Tied 18-18 after one period of play, Adelphi (12-0) opened the second quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 31-20 lead with 7:08 left before halftime. Murphy bookended the spurt with buckets, while Edringer and Strachan each drained a three-pointer.
The Panthers shot an astounding 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the field in the quarter, as the hosts went into the break with a comfortable 47-31 cushion.
Adelphi didn't let up in the third quarter and began the period on a short 6-0 burst to open a 20-point advantage (53-33) less than two minutes in. The Panthers would lead 66-43 after three quarters of play and never looked back.
Molloy (9-4) fought back though in the fourth quarter and made it an 11-point game (71-60) with 3:39 to go, but Adelphi held its opposition without a basket in the final 3:30 to close it out.
