Colchester, VT - With eight total team blocks (to the hosts' one), the Adelphi University volleyball program swept Saint Michael's College Friday evening, as they look to close out the regular season this weekend.
Sara Mandreja led all players with 11 kills, adding three service aces to her stat line.
Cara McKenzie added nine kills, and posted a season best six block assists in the win. Defensively, the Panthers (13-10, 6-6 NE10) were led by
Katarina Warburton who accounted for 17 digs as
Brenna Valsted paced the attack with 27 assists.
Adelphi took an early timeout in the opening set, after the Purple Knights (1-19, 0-12 NE10) leapt out to a four-point lead. Trailing by at-most 10 points, the visitors closed the gap with a 9-3 run and then closed out the first with eight unanswered points with McKenzie at the service line. Sparked with a service error from the home team,
Samantha Collins recorded the first kill in the stretch, and contributed later with a block coupled with Valsted.
Katie Barry, in true
Katie Barry fashion, contributed a six-point run from the serving line in the early going of the second set, to give Adelphi the upper hand. Tables quickly turned as the Brown and Gold found themselves leading by double-digits, and they finished up the set with a 7-4 run to move to 2-0 in the match.
In the ultimately final set, the Panthers hit .455 as a team, using 16 kills - with just one error - to secure the victory.
The Panthers conclude the regular season on Saturday, November 16 when they meet up with Saint Anselm College at noon. The Hawks defeated American International 3-2 Friday evening, posting an 8-2 mark in their last 10 contests.
