Flushing, N.Y. - On Sunday, the Adelphi University women's tennis team lost its final non-conference match of the fall season, dropping a 6-1 decision to Queens College in Flushing.
The Panthers, who fell to 9-3 overall, now await their seeding in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championship. Adelphi clinched a share of the NE10 regular-season title on Saturday. The tournament field will be finalized Monday night, after Stonehill and Le Moyne complete their previously-postponed contest from Sept. 28.
Adelphi and Southern New Hampshire are currently tied atop the league standings at 9-1. Stonehill sits a half game behind at 8-1. If Stonehill loses, the Panthers would receive the No. 1 seed, by virtue of their head-to-head 5-2 win at SNHU on Sept. 22. On the other hand, a Stonehill win would further the criteria needed to break the tie.
In the match at hand,
Amanda Franstedt accounted for the lone Adelphi victory on the day, with a 6-3, 6-3 straight-set win over Marisa Ostoja at No. 3 singles.
Nicole Stay took the first set from Louisa Brunetti, but lost 6-3, 5-7, 3-10 at the No. 4 flight.Â
In doubles,
Barbie Quagliardi and
Nicole Kielan lost a tough 6-3 decision in top pairs, while Franstedt and Stay came out on the short end of a 6-4 defeat at the No. 2 position.
Quagliardi and Kielan will represent the Panthers this week (Oct. 17-20) in doubles action at the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga. The winners of the draw will advance to the ITA National Championships in November.
