Sinking Spring, Pa. - The Adelphi University women's bowling team impressed in its 2019-20 debut over the weekend at the Bud Whitman Memorial, hosted by Chestnut Hill College at Berks Lanes in Sinking Spring.
The Panthers went 4-1 in Baker matches and 3-2 in traditional matches to finish 7-3 at the two-day competition.
Adelphi was the top Division II program in the Baker format, placing second overall with a total pinfall of 4,918. Duquesne University bested the field with 5,006 pins.
The Panthers, who averaged a 196.7 on the first day, bowled a 900 series or better in their first five matches. That included a 977-930 triumph over Duquesne in the opener. The Brown and Gold won decisively against Long Island University (999-934), Bloomfield College (1,014-772) and Molloy College (1,000-959), as well.
Adelphi also paced the Division II field in traditional play with a total pinfall of 4,941, trailing only Duquesne and Mount St. Mary's University for third place overall.
Skylar McGarrity, an All-Tournament Team selection, led the Panthers with 1,060 pins (212 average) in the five matches. She and 
Olivia Lopera both rolled a 255 in a 1,088-912 win over Mount Aloysius College.
Lopera ranked second on the team in traditional play on Sunday with a total pinfall of 1,047 (209.4 average). Her high game of 268 was one of three Adelphi bowlers to break 200 in a 1,064-989 rout of Caldwell University.
McKenna Collier was the only Panther to bowl four 200 games on the weekend, en route to posting a 1,021 total pinfall. 
Megan Wehmeier followed with a 926 series.

Dennis Kearney and his Adelphi squad are back at the lanes Saturday (Oct. 19), when they defend their title at the Sacred Heart University Bowl for a Cure at the AMF Bowlero Lanes in Milford, Conn.
