Silva Sets Career-High, Men's Hoops Tops SNHU 99-90

Manchester, N.H. - The combination of a career-high performance from Ronnie Silva and five players in double-figures lifted the Adelphi University men's basketball team to a 99-90 win at Southern New Hampshire Tuesday evening, in cross-divisional action.

The win marks the Panthers' (14-7, 8-5 NE10) fourth consecutive and eighth victory in their last nine contests, which included defeats of two nationally-ranked conference squads as well. The team was hot from beyond the arc, shooting 50 percent as a group and was also helped with a 13-15 stint at the free throw line.

On their home court, the Penmen (10-8, 6-7 NE10) suffered their second straight loss, despite the edge in rebounds, blocks and steals. Eamonn Joyce was one of three players to reach double-figures, leading the hosts with 24 and completing the double-double with 10 boards.

Adelphi jumped out to a 16-5 lead in the early going, capped with a fast break dunk from Oswald Parker III, who accounted for 22 in the win. The visitors continued to extend their advantage, and led by at-most 17 with the help of a three-ball from Parker with just minutes remaining in the opening half. SNHU's Charlie Russo managed a tre of his own at the other and several missed chances from Adelphi with seconds remaining left them with a 14-point lead at halftime.

Southern New Hampshire was able to cut their deficit down to single digits in the first five minutes of the second half, capitalizing on three Adelphi turnovers for an easy six points. An 11-2 stretch in favor of the Brown and Gold sparked by one of Silva's six- three-pointers and capped with a three from Jack Laffey saw the home team trailing once more by 14.

Staging a valiant comeback with less than five minutes to play, SNHU got as close as four to the never-trailing Panthers courtesy of a fast break lay-in from Mikey Buscetto. Timely fouls and nearly perfect shooting from Conor McGuinness down the stretch kept the home team at bay en route to Adelphi's fourth consecutive win.

Adelphi stays on the road for their next trip, when they take on Stonehill College on Saturday, February 2. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. as the second feature of the doubleheader league tilt.
