Women's Tennis Scores 4-1 Win Over Concordia (N.Y.) in Season Opener

Box Score Bronxville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team scored a 4-1 victory in its season-opener against the Concordia College Clippers on Saturday afternoon.

In a battle of teams which ended 2017-18 in the ITA national rankings, with Concordia sitting at No.33 and Adelphi at No.48, it was the Panthers (1-0) who picked up the crucial doubles point before winning the three singles matches which were completed prior to inclement weather.

A pair of contrasting doubles wins went Adelphi's way en route to winning the first combined doubles point of the season, with Nicole Kielan and Samantha Perri teaming for a 6-1 win at the top spot. Newcomer Nicole Stay, who arrives at Adelphi after two years at Ferris State, and Karen Serina followed with a tiebreak victory at No. 2 to help Adelphi to the sweep.

Sophomore Kielan, who steps into the No. 1 singles spot for her second season, also scored a win at No. 1 singles, coming from a set down to beat Concordia's Angelica Karlsson.
