Garden City, N.Y. - Reigning Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Kerianne Scorce led the Adelphi University women's soccer team to a dramatic 2-1 victory against league foe Le Moyne College on Saturday afternoon, tallying the game-tying and game-winning goals in the second half and overtime.
After 71 minutes of scoreless soccer, Le Moyne's Elizabeth Maguire got the Dolphins (3-6, 1-5 NE10) on the board in the second half, as she launched a rocket from the top of the box past a diving
Sarah Hofmeier to put the upset-minded visitors in the lead.
However, Scorce - who's now scored twice in three Adelphi (7-1, 6-1 NE10) wins this season - notched the equalizer just 47 seconds later, finishing past Anastasija Cumika off a cross from
Amanda Rainey from the far post.
The two sides stayed even for the rest of regulation, with the best chance for either side coming as regulation expired.
Savannah Taylor's header ricocheted off the crossbar above a leaping Cumika, and
Alexsis Weiser's follow-up was launched above the bar at the final whistle.
However, Scorce wrestled her way free to take the lone shot of the overtime period in the final minute, as she worked her way around a defender and collected the ball in the middle of the box, launching her eighth goal of the season to send the Panthers home with a win.
The Panthers are back in action on Tuesday night in Garden City, as they take on longtime regional rival Bridgeport on Motamed Field at 6 p.m.
