Field Hockey Win Streak Snapped by Southern New Hampshire, 4-0

Manchester, N.H.-The Adelphi University field hockey team's win streak was cut short on Saturday afternoon after a Northeast-10 Conference matchup with Southern New Hampshire University fell in favor of the Penmen, 4-0.

The Panthers (3-4, 2-1 NE10) lost their first league road game against the Penmen in shutout fashion.

A three-goal first half gave the hosts an advantage early on that eventually led them to victory.

Faye Turkman of Southern New Hampshire (4-3, 2-0 NE10) scored the home team's first goal less than a minute after the starting whistle, giving the Penmen an early 1-0 lead.

Kate Manson and Charlotte Smith both registered shots on goal, but could not find a way past Melanie Rennie, who finished with four saves in the victory.

Emily Campbell netted SNHU's next two goals of the half, putting the Penmen up 3-0 after the opening 35 minutes.

The Panther defense was tested in the second frame as well, as the home team extended their lead at the 41 minute mark following a goal from Cassidy Huckins, her fourth goal of the season. Adelphi was able to hold the Penmen off for the remainder of the match, but eventually fell to the home team after 70 minutes.

Despite the loss, Leah Savage recorded a new career-high 16 saves in goal for the Brown and Gold.

Head Coach Mary Moore and the squad return to action on October 6 for a home matchup against No. 2, Stonehill College. The contest is set to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday on Motamed Field.
