Volleyball Remains Unbeaten in NE10, Travels to Pace on Tuesday

Worcester, Mass. - Behind double-figure performances from Sara Bisbe and Cara McKenzie, the Adelphi University volleyball program won their fourth straight contest with a 3-0 defeat of Assumption College on Saturday afternoon.

Bisbe and McKenzie both accounted for 11 kills in the win, combining for three service aces, nine digs and six block assists. Grace Wegmann and Katie Barry chipped in 19 and 10 assists, respectively, pacing the Panthers (11-3, 2-0 NE10) to victory. The Greyounds (1-9, 1-3 NE10) were held to 24 kills for the match, as Alana Hruska accounted for a third of the total, with a team-high eight.

Adelphi trailed in the opening set, but a five-point run in favor of the Panthers put them ahead by two. The scoring spree featured kills from Sara Mandreja, McKenna Clawson, and Bisbe. With the teams matched at 17-all, the Brown and Gold recorded eight of the final 10 points to come away with the first set win.

In the second set, the visitors posted their best hitting percentage of the NE10 matchup at .323, with 12 kills and just two errors. Assumption committed 25 errors in the match to end the game with a negative hitting percentage, as a result of an eight to three edge in blocks from Adelphi.

The Greyhounds managed to jump out to a similar lead in the third but were quickly out-matched, as several miscues found them trailing by four at 9-5. McKenzie notched four straight kills to maintain the visitor advantage and Sophia Powless came in to contribute two service aces to push Adelphi ahead to a seven-point lead. Assumption earned several sideouts down the stretch, but not enough to overcome the deficit as the Panthers took a 25-16 final set decision.

NE10 play continues on Tuesday, September 25 when the team takes on Pace University at the Setters home court in Pleasantville, N.Y.
