Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University field hockey team will trade their turf shoes for running shoes later this month, as they take on the Stephen Siller 'Tunnel to Towers' 5K for charity.
The Panthers are raising money to donate to the Stephen Siller Foundation in the program's name. Fans, supporters and families can donate to the cause at the team's GoFundMe page.
The Panthers will join racers from all across the country on Sept. 30, beginning at the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel, formerly known as the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, and finish at the Twin Towers in Manhattan.
The race began in 2002, in honor of a New York City firefighter, Stephen Siller, and the final steps he took from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers on Sept. 1, 2001. The race pays homage to all who were lost on 9/11.
