Garden City, N.Y. - With a five-goal advantage at halftime, the Adelphi University men's lacrosse team used consistency at the face-off to win a Northeast-10 Conference matchup with Franklin Pierce, 17-9, Saturday afternoon on senior day.
Prior to the contest the program honored the graduating class of 2018, which included Nick Badaracco,
Matt Byrne,
Gerard Cunningham, Louis and
John Cuttitta,
Hunter Hayes,
Tyler Regnier, and
Alex Schlosser.
Adelphi (10-3, 9-2 NE10) found themselves even with Franklin Pierce (5-8, 3-8 NE10) after the ten minute mark in the opening quarter.
Nicolas Racalbuto, who finished the game with five goals scored the next three from the end of the first into the second to push the Panthers out to a three-goal advantage. Nevin Kriger and Luke Tracy each accounted for goals for the Ravens, but tallies from
John Arcidiacono,
Ian Kirby, and
Angelo Caiazzo put the hosts up by five heading into the break.
The home team notched four goals in each of the later two frames, holding their opponents to two and three in the third and fourth, respectively. The teams were nearly even in shot attempts, but the Brown and Gold held a commanding advantage in face off wins, with 24 compared to Franklin Pierce's six.
Mark Andrejack bolstered that number with 19 wins of his own at the X, as
Phillip Brady chipped in five.
James Hall scored the first goal of the third, sparking a 4-2 run in favor of the hosts.
Hunter Hayes, after celebrating his senior day put in back-to-back goals over the third and fourth to extend the Adelphi lead to seven. The Ravens may have scored three, their largest amount of the contest, in the fourth, but Adelphi was helped by scores from
Justin Napolitano - in a man down possession -
Tyler O'Brien - his first of the season - and
Devin Kennedy to keep the visitors at bay.
The men's program will host a first round conference playoff game on Tuesday, May 1 at 7:00 p.m. They will take on sixth-seeded Pace University at Motamed Field.
