Waltham, Mass. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team dropped its final regular season match to the Falcons of Bentley University on Saturday afternoon, 5-4, on the campus of Brandeis University.
Adelphi (4-10, 4-5 NE10) salvaged a point at second doubles by virtue of a tiebreak victory for
Ilya Kalabukhau and
Luke Attride-Stirling, but were ultimately unable to overcome an early deficit en route to defeat. The Falcons won three of the first four completed singles matches to clinch the win, as Adelphi's lone win in those matches was for
Matteo Cannavera at the top spot.
Bentley clinched the match with a straight sets win for Michael Fuca over Attride-Stirling at No.5, before Kalabukhau and
David Robres de Veciana each scored match tiebreak wins at No.4 and No.3, with the former coming from a set down.
By virtue of a win on Friday by Stonehill College against Assumption College, the Panthers and Skyhawks finished with an identical 4-5 league record. However, a win for Stonehill in the head-to-head meeting this season secured them the sixth and final spot in the NE10 Championships, as Adelphi misses the postseason.
