Pleasantville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team dropped its first Northeast-10 Southwest Division game of the season to the Pace University Setters on the road on Tuesday afternoon, 4-1.
The Adelphi (17-15-1, 9-4-1 NE10) bats were stymied by Emma Bernet over the course of seven innings in the defeat, managing just one run and five hits across the lineup. Conversely, Pace (10-15, 8-7 NE10) put up two runs against
Ally Muller in the first inning and never looked back, also adding a pair in the fourth inning to win its second straight.
Three straight base hits to begin the bottom of the first set the tone for the Setters in the game, as leadoff hitter Larissa Labs doubled and was driven home on a triple to right-center, before freshman Niyah Brown made it three straight hits to begin the contest, knocking in Wang with a single to center.
Extra base hits also led the Pace's other two runs, as Meagan Wells brought Jordan Chillinsky home with a double to left-center before Lindsey Ah Soon hammered a triple to score Wells. All four runs were charged to Muller, who left the game after 3.2 innings and allowed five hits with two strikeouts.
The Panthers' lone tally came in the third inning on a
Krista King RBI fielder's choice.
Lauren O'Neill scored on the play after reaching on a single, and advancing to third on a Pace error.
Adelphi will look to break its four-game skid this weekend, as a four-game divisional series against the College of Saint Rose begins with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
