Flushing, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team snapped a four-match losing streak and pulled back to .500 in Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Assumption College Greyhounds, 9-0, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Adelphi (2-7, 2-2 NE10) got off to a quick start in the match with a sweep of doubles, as
Matteo Cannavera and
Sabin Adrian Saveluc led the way with an 8-0 win at the top spot. In singles, it was the lower half of the Adelphi lineup that made a statement, as
Luke Attride-Stirling and
Connor Dove each recorded double bagel wins at No.5 and No.6, while
Ilya Kalabukhau rolled to a second-set bagel after edging a first-set tiebreak at No.4.
Saveluc rallied after dropping the opening set to ensure a Panther sweep, as he came back to win a second set bagel and edged the decider in an eventual 1-6, 6-0, 6-4 victory.
Adelphi is back in action next Tuesday afternoon, traveling to take on Stonehill College in North Easton, Mass. at 3:30 p.m.
