Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Murphy Spurs Women's Basketball to 87-48 Win Over Saint Rose

Garden City, N.Y. - A career-best 19 points for freshman Katie Murphy off the bench complimented three starters in double figures, as the Adelphi University women's basketball team snapped a three-game skid in grand fashion, defeating the Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose, 87-48 on Tuesday night inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.

Murphy, who came off the bench for 27 minutes of action, tallied a season-best 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor, and added five rebounds and five steals. In the starting lineup, Simone Hobdy led all scorers with 22 points, her second straight game of 20-points, and her sixth overall of the season. Niajah Morgan added 19 points, eight assists and six rebounds, while Emily Miccile added 10 points and Natalie Fekula hauled in 12 rebounds for Adelphi (12-13, 8-9 NE10).

Adelphi was in control from the get-go, thanks to a 16-6 first quarter, and never looked back over the course of the game. The Panthers' defense, which was dominant on rebounds to the tune of a 48-33 margin in the game, held the Golden Knights to single-digit scoring in the first and fourth quarters to snag a pivotal victory in the chase for the NE10 playoffs.

The Panthers came into the game slotted at No.5 in the Southwest Division, while the Golden Knights came in at No.4 with one less game on their record. The top five teams from each division make the NE10 tournament.

Murphy, whose previous career-high of 13 points came in a 93-51 win at Franklin Pierce on Jan. 20, totaled 10 of her points in the first half, while Morgan added 11 of hers to the Brown and Gold's 37-25 lead at the break.

Hobdy came on strong in the second half, totaling 15 of her points to lead all scorers in the second 20 minutes, while Julia Strachan came off the bench late to add seven points in just five minutes of action.

The Panthers remain at home for their next NE10 contest, as they welcome the Setters of Pace University inside the Center for Recreation and Sports for a 1:30 p.m. contest on Feb. 10.
