Women's Basketball Falls to NE #1 Stonehill in Northeast-10 Quarterfinals

North Easton, Mass. - The Adelphi University women's basketball season came to an end on Sunday afternoon, as the Panthers were bested in the Northeast-10 Conference tournament quarterfinals by overall top seed Stonehill College, 90-65.

Despite trailing 72-39 after three, Adelphi (14-16) made a late push with its season at stake, and outscored the Skyhawks by a 26-18 margin over the final 10 minutes.

The Skyhawks (25-2), winners of 16 straight games and the seventh-ranked team in the latest D2SIDA Top 25 Media Poll and 18th in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II poll, sprinted out to a 25-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back en route to punching their ticket to the NE10 semifinals.

The Purple and White shot 50% from the floor (10-for-20) in the first 10 minutes, as Adelphi was held to just three made baskets on 16 attempts. Stonehill was similarly stellar in the second period, keeping an overall shooting percentage near 50 (8-for-17), and took a 46-21 lead into halftime.

Playing about 30 minutes away from her hometown of Wrentham, Mass., freshman Emily Miccile led the Panthers' scoring effort with 13 points, while Simone Hobdy added 11 in her final collegiate game after being held without a basket in the first half.

Stonehill had four players in double figures in scoring, with Samantha Hyslip had a double-double for the advancing team with 20 points and 11 minutes.
