Winter Park, Fla. -
Lena Riportella scored a team-high five goals to pace the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to its first win of the season, a 15-11 decision over No. 11 Rollins College on Tuesday evening.
Alison Johnson matched a game-high six points behind two goals and four assists, as Riportella followed suit with five points of her own behind five goals.
Kole Pollock continued her scoring spree, notching another four goals in her second consecutive game as two other players chipped in two each.
The Panthers (1-1) were led by Pollock, Johnson, and Riportella to open the contest as each registered a goal to take a 3-0 lead. Rollins (1-2) broke the silence with their first of the game almost 10 minutes in, but Adelphi added three unanswered to their side of the board to jump ahead by five.
Nicki Stanco scored her first and second goals of the afternoon with the second closing out the first half of play for the Brown and Gold, who maintained their five-goal advantage heading into the break.
The Tars came out on fire in the second, committing a 7-2 run over the opening 15 minutes to even the game at 11-11. Riportella ripped AU's next three goals past Malorie Olin to keep the home team at bay, and Pollock sent in the final tally to seal the deal.
Women's lacrosse will return north to begin Northeast-10 Conference action against American International College on Wednesday, Feb. 28. The home contest will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Motamed Field.
