Cleveland, Ohio - After sending a pair of teams to the NCAA Division II Tournament this fall, the Adelphi University athletic department checked in at No. 32 in the nation in the prestigious Learfield Directors' Cup standings, released on Dec. 20.
Adelphi earned a total of 123 points in the fall from men's soccer and volleyball, with the former earning 73 points thanks to a run to the national quarterfinals, and the latter earning 50 points after winning a round in the NCAA East Regional.
The Panthers were No. 25 in the first edition of the fall standings, released Dec. 6, dropping seven places after the conclusion of NCAA competition for the fall season.
Adelphi is the third-highest Northeast-10 Conference institution in the national list following the fall season, behind Stonehill College (25th) and American International College (30th). The Skyhawks sent men's and women's cross country, and women's soccer, to the NCAA tournament, while the Yellow Jackets sent men's cross country and volleyball.
In addition, the Panthers are the fourth-highest ranked Division II athletic program in the East Region, with East Coast Conference (ECC) member LIU Post checking in at No. 20.
The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and
USA Today, and points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
Colorado School of Mines scored 340.00 points to lead Division II after the fall season. Grand Valley State is in second place with 315.00 points, Western Washington is in third place with 256.00 points, West Chester (PA) is in fourth with 220.00 points and rounding out the top five is Shippensburg (PA) with 218.00 points.
