Pleasantville, N.Y. - Competing for the first time this season, the Adelphi University swimming and diving teams fell to Northeast-10 Conference foe Pace at the Goldstein Fitness Center on Saturday evening.
The women's squad fell by a 104-80 final, while the men dropped a 91-68 final decision. Pace's women (2-0) won six events on the evening, including a sweep of the diving events over the Panthers, while the Blue and Gold also swept the diving events on the men's side and notched four more individual wins.
Adelphi scored two wins in the 400-yard relays, both in the medley and the freestyle. Up first in the medley, Adelphi won behind a 4:08.63 time from
Natasha Rice,
Kristen Tzavelis and newcomers
Crystal Zhang and
Ashley Danulevith. Rice, Zhang,
Theresa Mattei and
Emma Brown later teamed for a win in the freestyle in a time of 3:50.96, as the Panthers posted the top three finishes in the race.
Individually, Tzavelis won the 100-yard back in a time of 1:10.30, nearly five seconds clear of the field, while Zhang continued to excel in her first college race with a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:00.70.
Another newcomer in
Kristen Flores led the way in the 400-yard IM, and she and
Theresa Mattei went 1-2 in the race Other highlight results for the women included a second-place finish for Danulevith in the 100-yard freestyle, while Rice also placed second in the 100-yard backstroke, chipping in four points.
For the men,
Zack Vreeland won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:02.34, while
Daniel Lee out-touched Pace's Andre Cyprianos by just .01 to win the 50-yard freestyle. Vreeland also added a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with
Brian Klotsche,
Dylan Farrell and
Eian Mckeon. Mckeon and Klotsche also picked up individual wins in the 400-yard IM and the 100-yard butterfly, respectively.
The teams are back in action at a double-dual meet next weekend, as the women will face Queens (N.Y.) and Baruch, while the men will compete against Baruch. Action from Flushing, N.Y. gets underway at 6 p.m.
