Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Ginyard Has Career Game, Men's Basketball Falls Short at Saint Anselm

Manchester, NH - Despite staging a serious comeback down the stretch to sit within one of the home team, the Adelphi men's basketball team came up short Saturday afternoon, dropping a 97-92 final decision at Saint Anselm College.

Dropping a career-high 31 points and leading Adelphi (5-11, 1-8 NE10) was Tavon Ginyard, who used six three-pointers off the bench and 12 made field goals in the loss. Conor McGuinness also put up a season-high 22 points, helping the team to a 51 field-goal percentage. Nick Cambio was the third member of the program finishing in double figures with 18, also checking in with a new career-best eight field goals made.

Saint Anselm (11-3, 7-2 NE10) saw its 16-point lead at the break largely helped by a 28-point performance from Tim Guers in the first half. As a team the Hawks shot over 68 percent from the field and scored 13 points just from Panther turnovers. The hosts led by at most 24 in the first frame to head into the locker room with a comfortable advantage in front of a crowd of nearly 400.

Sixteen of McGuinness's 22 points came in the second half, with the help of four shots from beyond the arc with the first coming at the 15:20 mark to cut the home team advantage to 13. A 7-0 run capped with another trey from McGuinness helped the Panthers dip into a single-digit battle with nearly 10 minutes to play.

Doug Chappelle came off the bench and contributed a fast break layup at 8:47 which sparked a 10-3 run which kept the Brown and Gold in the game. Over the next eight plus minutes the contest remained a a possession or two within reach, as another McGuinness three-pointer brought the game within one. Unable to get a shot off the Panthers committed a late turnover and a huge sub-minute block from Cody Ball sealed the deal for the hosts.

The Hawks saw a career night from Guers who finished with 41 and led three teammates in double figures. Adelphi had an advantage in bench points, using 40 to the home team's five.

Next tip-off for the Panthers is scheduled for Tuesday, January 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Merrimack College.
