Oceanside, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University women's tennis team handed the Assumption College Greyhounds their first loss of the season at the Point Set Indoor Racket Club on Tuesday afternoon, continuing Northeast-10 Conference play with a 7-2 victory.
The two teams split action at No.2 and No.3 doubles to begin the match, with
Elizabeth Kallenberg and
Samantha Perri posting an 8-1 in in the second spot for Adelphi's first point of the day.
As a result, the tiebreaking match in doubles came at the top spot, and
Rebecca Fakas and
Karen Serina pulled a Houdini act -- rallying from 6-3 in the first-to-eight-games pro set to secure a 9-7 victory and send Adelphi (4-1, 3-1 NE10) leading 2-1.
Straight set victories at No.4, No.3 and No.1 clinched victory for the Panthers over Assumption (4-1, 3-1 NE10), beginning as Perri dropped just two games at the fourth flight, while
Nicole Kielan matched her with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No.3.
Fakas rounded out the trio with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the top spot to clinch victory, while Kallenberg and
