Women's Tennis Season Comes to Close in NCAA Second Round Defeat to NYIT, 5-2

North Easton, Mass. -- The Adelphi University women's tennis team saw its NCAA Championship campaign come to an end at the hands of the top seeds in the East Region, and the 33rd-ranked team in the country, NYIT on Tuesday in the second round, 5-2.

A win for Vanja Savic at No.5 singles tied the match at 2-2 for Adelphi (14-7), but the Bears (16-0) ran off straight set victories at No.1, No. 2 and No. 4 to seal the match and advance to the national championship bracket next week in Orlando.

The two teams split doubles play, as NYIT picked up the first win at No. 3 before Elizabeth Kallenberg and Samantha Perri knotted the match at 1-1 with a win at No. 2 doubles, 8-5. In the tightest match of the day, Lena Dimmer and Karolina Pondsova, ranked No. 19 in the country, secured a critical doubles point, edging Rebecca Fakas and Karen Serina at No. 1, 9-7.

Adelphi ends its season as repeat champions of the Northeast-10 Conference, earning an NCAA bid for the second straight year. With her singles match unfinished against NYIT, Perri caps her year undefeated in singles at a sparkling 20-0 overall.
