Baseball Silenced by New Haven in NE10 Sweep

West Haven, Conn. -- The Adelphi University baseball team dropped a pair of games to the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday, as the Charger arms silenced the Panther bats in both contests to the tune of 9-1 and 11-0 wins.

The Chargers (9-3, 4-1 NE10) pounded out 20 runs and 26 hits against Adelphi (13-10, 3-4 NE10) pitching, while the Panther bats pushed across just one run in the two games. Michael Cattani was a bright spot for the Panthers in game one, as he went 4-4 at the plate to account for the majority of Adelphi's seven hits. Brett Malm had the lone RBI for the Brown and Gold on the afternoon, on a sac fly in the eighth inning of the opener, while the Adelphi bats were limited to just five singles in game two  by six New Haven pitchers.

Game 1
New Haven touched up TJ Santiago for five runs in four innings of work, as the senior hurler allowed a season-high nine hits and struck out two in his outing. A run in the first and two in the third and fourth put the Chargers up 5-0, as Adelphi put just one runner in scoring position over the first five innings.

Two walks, a triple and a double play led to three more New Haven runs in the eighth against the Adelphi bullpen, before the Brown and Gold loaded the bases in the eighth thanks to singles from Michael Stack, Steven Withers and Cattani. Nonetheless, only one run was plated for Adelphi in the inning, before the Chargers added their final tally in the bottom of the frame and Adelphi was set down in order to end the game.

Game 2
A three-run first inning for the Chargers against Matthew O'Connor put the Panthers behind early, before a pair of two-run homers for the hosts off O'Connor and Michael Demarest in the middle innings broke the game open. The Panthers loaded the bases in the fifth, with the game poised at 5-0, on two singles for Thomas Colombo and Kory Cassara and a walk to Stack, but nothing came of the opportunity from there.

Adelphi had opportunities to break up the shutout in the late innings, but left five runners on base in the final four frames.

The Panthers close out a three-game series with New Haven at 3:30 pm on Monday, April 3.
