Manchester, N.H. -- Despite snowy conditions that saw the game's start delayed by 90 minutes, the top-ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team saw seven different players find the back of the net in an 18-6 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Southern New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers (8-0, 6-0 NE10) got four goals apiece from
Casey Zalewski and
Jacqueline Jahelka, with the former tying a career-high in scoring. Rookies Kole Pollock and
Alison Johnson each found the back of the net three times, with Johnson adding a pair of assists, while
Kate Beier recorded two tallies. On defense,
Alyssa Gillespie picked up four ground balls, with
Ryley Weber and
Shea Weber combining to win seven draw controls and pick up six ground balls.
Johnson and Zalewski each scored twice as Adelphi scored the first five goals of the contest over the first 12:33 before SNHU (5-4, 2-3 NE10) got on the board. After SNHU's Kristin Wilder broke the shutout on a free position shot with 14:19 left in the first, Adelphi ripped off six straight goals, including two each from Jahelka and Pollock to take an 11-1 lead at halftime.
A tighter second half saw SNHU connect on five of its seven shots, while limiting Adelphi to seven goals on 12 opportunities. Zalewski scored two alongside Jahelka in the first 5:44 of the second half, before the Penmen scored five of the final nine goals of the half to end the game.Â
The Panthers are back in action on Tuesday, April 4, when they travel to Pace University for a 7 pm NE10 contest.
