Men's Lacrosse Takes Down Saint Michael's, 9-4

Colchester, VT - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team kept their win streak alive Saturday afternoon after securing a 9-4 victory over Saint Michael's College at Duffy Field.

The Panthers (6-1, 4-0 NE10) used scoring from six different players to earn the win. Ian Kirby led the way, notching his third hat trick of the season as Michael Osmundsen also chipped in a pair. Mark Andrejack went 15-17 in the faceoff X and scooped up a game high nine ground balls, as Joseph Catalanotti racked up a career-high four caused turnovers on defense.

Adelphi got on the board under three minutes into the first quarter, when Nick Carlino connected with Kirby to take a 1-0 lead. The visitors added two more before the frame expired, the first coming from a combo of Tyler Regnier and John Arcidiacono and the last courtesy of Gordon Purdie Jr. and Kirby.

The Brown and gold merely extended their lead in the second with two more, to head into the break with a five-goal advantage. Chris Racalbuto found Chris Lopez to start the third less than a minute into the contest. The home team managed to get one goal past Brendan McDougal, who finished with six saves and the win but just before the Panthers rattled off four unanswered goals to cushion their lead to eight goals. With less than 2:30 to play, Saint Michael's tallied two more goals, this time past Dan Marino, who entered the third with 6:08 to play.

Both teams took four shots in the start of the last quarter before either was successful. The Purple Knights netted their fourth in a man-up possession at 6:42 but were held scoreless through the remainder of the contest. In goal for the home team, Matt Hanley collected five saves in the closing five minutes of the fourth frame alone, finishing the game with a career-high 27.

Adelphi commanded a 36-14 shot on goal advantage and won 15 faceoffs to the Purple Knights' two. The Panthers also scooped a season-best 51 ground balls as a team, to the hosts 25.

"Statistically, we won all over the field -- Andrejack and our face off unit had a great day," commented Head Coach Gordon Purdie. "Both goalies and our defense again had a very successful afternoon, giving up just four goals."

The men's lacrosse program is back in action on Saturday, April 1 when they host No. 3 Merrimack at noon on Motamed Field.
