Albany, N.Y. - In the second of seven road games closing out 2017 the Adelphi University men's basketball team fell short Wednesday evening, suffering a 75-59 loss to the College of Saint Rose.
The Golden Knights (8-3, 4-1) held the Panthers to their lowest scoring output of the season, with just two players reaching double-figures.
Michael Coffey used 6-for-11 shooting from the field and perfect shooting at the free throw line to finish with 18 points, as
Tavon Ginyard came off the bench to contribute 12.
Nick Cambio nearly missed a double-double, registering eight points and 12 rebounds.
Adelphi (3-6, 1-4 NE10) struggled to keep momentum after being tied at seven-all, as the home team committed a 20-3 run to take a 17-point advantage midday through the first. The visitors managed to work the deficit down to single digits, courtesy of a
Jack Laffey three-pointer, but a layup in the final seconds for the home team allowed them to remain ahead by 11.
Saint Rose continued to press on offense to start the second frame, pulling away with at-most a 23-point lead. With 16-points coming from the hot hand of Coffey, it was not enough to overcome the advantage held by the Golden Knights throughout the game.
The Panthers put up perfect numbers at the charity stripe in the second half, going a perfect 11-for-11 to finish the game at 88-percent overall.
The next road game for the Brown and Gold is scheduled for Saturday, December 9, at American International. Tip-off for the men's game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. following a 1:30 women's contest.
