Bowling Claims Team Title at Wilmington Wildcat Invitational, Collier Finishes in Second Place

New Castle, Del. -- The Adelphi University women's bowling team had its most dominant weekend of the season to close out the 2017 calendar year over the weekend, posting a perfect record en route to claiming the inaugural Wilmington Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Wilmington (Del.) University.

Posting a perfect 13-0 record over the three days, the Brown and Gold were on top of the bracket after the first two days of play, going 10-0 across Baker and traditional play. On Sunday, the Panthers rallied to defeat Kutztown in the first match in come-from-behind fashion, before defeating the Golden Bears in the third and final match of the tournament to claim the trophy.

The victory is Adelphi's second team trophy of the season, after winning the one-day SHU Bowl for the Cure event, hosted by Sacred Heart, in October.

Sophomore McKenna Collier had the best weekend of her career thus far for the Brown and Gold, earning All-Tournament team status behind a second-place finish to individual champion Rayissa Amon of Mount Aloysius College, and a traditional average of 198.6. Rebecca Gotterbarn joined her on the All-Tournament team with a 190 traditional average and fourth-place finish.

Rounding out Adelphi's top three individually was Skylar McGarrity, whose 180.6 traditional average was good enough to slot her in 12th place in a field of nearly 80 bowlers.

A perfect five matches in Baker play saw Adelphi take victories over Mount Aloysius, Belmont Abbey, the host Wildcats, LIU Post and Felician, with the tightest match coming against their fellow Long Island foes in a 914-876 victory.

In traditional play, Adelphi earned victories over Medaille, Chestnut Hill, Pitt-Bradford, Kutztown and New Jersey City University to keep their perfect record in tact at 10-0 at the top of the leaderboard. In the Panthers' second match, a 931-871 victory over Chestnut Hill, Gotterbarn and McGarrity both broke the 200-pin plateau, with the freshman chipping in a team-high 209. Collier's best traditional result of the five matches, a 225 against Pitt-Bradford, was followed up by a 210 in the win against Kutztown.

Adelphi's team victory came in thrilling fashion on Sunday, as the Panthers were forced to fight from behind against the Kutztown Golden Bears to remain in the winner's bracket and advance in seven games. After another victory against Pitt-Bradford, the Brown and Gold again came up against Kutztown, winning the final match in six games to earn their second team trophy of the season.

The Panthers are back in action in the new year, returning to competition at the Kutztown Invitational over the weekend of Jan. 20-23.
