Kenosha, Wisc. - The Adelphi University women's bowling team matched up with some of the strongest programs in the country over the weekend at the Warkhawk Classic, hosted by the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater. Rounding into form at the end of the weekend, the Panthers posted a fifth-place showing for their fifth Top 5 finish in five events this season.
Over 13 matches, the Panthers posted the fifth-highest total pinfall for all the competing teams, behind Arkansas State, Nebraska, Vanderbilt and McKendree.
Katelyn LaRocca paced Adelphi as its top individual finisher with a 13th place traditional finish, with a 205.6 traditional average. Also finishing in the Top 20 was freshman
Skylar McGarrity, who posted a 201.6 average for 20th place, and all five of Adelphi's starters finished in the Top 55 in a field of 142 bowlers.Â
Adelphi bounced back to close out Baker play on the first day with a win over Lincoln (Mo.) by a margin of 200 pins, after dropping its first four Baker matches in fairly close fashion - with three of the four coming down to a margin of less than 100 pins. On day two, the Panthers posted strong results in tradition play, winning three of their five matches over Stephen F. Austin, Sacred Heart and Fairleigh Dickinson, before being edged by Central Missouri and LIU Brooklyn by six and 29 pins, respectively.
LaRocca tallied a trio of 200-plus matches in Adelphi's three wins, led by a 244 against Fairleigh Dickinson, while McGarrity posted her high of 234 against Sacred Heart.
