Volleyball Silenced at Stonehill, 3-0

Easton, Mass. - In the second to last regular season contest of the 2017 campaign, the Adelphi University volleyball team suffered a three-set sweep by Stonehill College Friday evening.

With a spread offense, Madison Canestrari and Victoria Cast both chipped in six kills apiece to lead the Brown and Gold (13-13, 9-4 NE10). Megan Manierski and Katie Barry were responsible for 11 and nine assists, respectively as Katarine Warburton led on defense with 11 digs.

Stonehill (11-13, 8-5 NE10) used a 7-1 run in the middle of the opening set to gain traction and take a five-point lead. Several miscues down the stretch proved unfortunate for the Panthers as they attempted to use three straight points in the final stretch, however Jessica Delanty closed out the 25-20 first set final to give the Skyhawks an advantage.

A 9-2 run for the home team once more pushed them out to a lead in the second set, where they kept Adelphi trailing by six. The visitors registered seven points of the next 10 points but the hosts managed to hold on for a 25-22 victory to pull ahead in the match.

Adelphi held a strong lead through the third set, with a run bookmarked with blocks from Canestrari and kills from McKenna Clawson and Sophia Powless. The Skyhawks ripped off 10 points to the Panther's three to turn the set around and regain the lead at 21-18 but back-to-back aces from Powless knotted the game at 22-all. To the dismay of the visitors, the Purple and White collected the final three points of the set to sweep the match.

The Panthers close out the regular season on Saturday, November 11 when they take on the Falcons of Bentley University. Prior to the NE10 finale, Adelphi is tied for third with their last opponents with a 9-4 record in conference play.
