Manchester, N.H. - With the help of a .310 hitting percentage for the match, Adelphi University volleyball team took a three-set victory from Saint Anselm College Friday evening.
Leading the charge was
McKenna Clawson, who was responsible for 15 kills behind a .289 hitting percentage and 13 digs on defense. Five other attackers registered two or more kills as
Megan Manierski paced the offense with 37 assists and added three of the Panther's 13 service aces. Defensively, two other players reached double-figures as Leilani Vazquez and
Katarina Warburton recorded 13 and 12, respectively.
The visiting Brown and Gold stormed out to a 7-2 lead in the opening set, but that didn't last for long as the Hawks rattled off four unanswered points to come within one. With the help of kills from
Madison Canestrari and
Rebecca Seeba however, Adelphi continued to maintain the upper hand. Closing out the set, Clawson recorded two kills separated by a big block from Canestrari and Manierski to post a 25-19 decision.
In the second set, Saint Anselm took their first lead at 9-8, but a kill from Manierski sparked a 6-2 run to put AU back on top. At 18-all the teams found themselves in a stalemate, but seven of the next eight points were in favor of the visitors, putting the Panthers up 2-0 in the match.
Adelphi continued to roll as the third set began, but the home team was not letting down easy. With 11-11 on the scoreboard,
Victoria Cast slammed home back-to-back kills which jump started a 6-0 nothing run and ultimately all the way to victory as AU collected the final four points en route to a 25-16 victory.
The team has a quick turnaround as they return to Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday, October 28 with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Saint Michael's College.
