Wallingford, Conn. -- The Adelphi University bowling team picked up its first tournament win of the season at the Bowl for the Cure Invite hosted by Sacred Heart University on Saturday, picking up four wins in five matches to top the team standings.
Individually, Adelphi had two Top 10 finishers, as
Lena Sorrentino averaged a 236.6 to finish in fourth, earning All-Tournament team status.
Fellow senior
Katelyn LaRocca joined her on the All-Tournament team with a 224.6 average and a seventh place finish. All five of Adelphi's bowlers finished in the Top 25 in a field of 43 bowlers.
The Panthers began the tournament with a tight 1,108-1,081 win over the hosts from Sacred Heart, as all five players rolled over a 200, anchored by Sorrentino's 248.
She was also the high roller in a 1,043-920 win over Caldwell with a 269, while
Rebecca Gotterbarn's 268 paced the 1,135-986 win against Molloy in the third match.
Adelphi's lone setback of the tournament came against Felician, in which LaRocca rolled a 244, but bounced back with a decisive 1,034-854 win over Franklin Pierce, in which LaRocca (235), Gotterbarn (224) and
Skylar McGarrity (215) all cracked 200.
The Panthers return to action at the FDU New Jersey Jamboree, over the weekend of Nov. 3-5, hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson in Stratford, N.J.
