Colchester, Vt. -- Led by
Simone Hobdy's 16 points, the Adelphi University women's basketball team never trailed en route to scoring a ninth straight victory on Saturday afternoon, 63-25 over Saint Michael's College.
Hobdy, who scored in double figures for the first time since Dec. 7, also pulled down 10 rebounds to pace Adelphi (13-2, 9-0 NE10) on the afternoon.
Calli Balfour pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, also chipping in nine points, six assists and five steals, while
Sierra Clark joined Hobdy in double figures with 13 points. The Panther defense forced 16 turnovers in the game, scoring 26 points off them, while holding the Purple Knights (7-7, 5-4 NE10)Â to just 15.6% shooting from the field.
A Clark jumper with 4:59 remaining in the first quarter gave Adelphi a lead 6-4 lead and the edge for good, as a 10-2 run to close the opening period gave the Brown and Gold a 14-6 edge after the first 10 minutes. The visitors pulled away in the second period, exploding for a 22-2 frame, as buckets from
Natalie Fekula book-ended five points off the hand of Balfour in a 9-0 run to start the period. The run expanded to 19-0 as Hobdy tallied eight of the next 10 points, and a
Sierra Schrader three capped the first half with the Panthers in front, 36-8.
The home team won the scoring battle in the third period, edging out a 12-11 frame thanks to a 10-6 spurt over the final 3:33, but Adelphi hit back in the fourth with bench strength, as
Niajah Morgan,
Morgan Hellyer,
Mali Klorczyk and
Fallyn Stephens all got on the statsheet.Â
