Worcester, Mass. -- Playing with a short lineup due to inury, the Adelphi University women's tennis team was put in a hole that it could not recover from on the road, falling to the host Greyhounds 6-3 in Northeast-10 Conference action on Thursday.
The Panthers (5-2, 5-2 NE-10) were forced to default at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 singles, putting the Greyhounds up 2-0 before getting on court. While
Rebecca Fakas and
Samantha Perri won by an 8-3 score at top flight doubles, the Greyhounds took No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 win to lead 3-1 heading to singles.
A paire of straight-set wins helped the Greyhounds' (6-1, 5-1 NE-10) cause to clinch the match in singles, as Camille Latoni double bageled
Maria Bruzon Gutierrez at No. 5 and Hannah Riley defeated
Vanja Savic with the loss of five games at No. 2. Fakas and Perri accounted for Adelphi's lone victories in singles as well, with Fakas rolling at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2, in her first match at the position this season and Perri rebounding after a second set blowout to win in a match tiebreak.
