Colchester, Vt. -- A sweep of doubles helped the Adelphi University tennis team earn its second straight victory on Saturday afternoon, as they traveled north to defeat the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College, 8-1.
The Panthers (4-1, 4-1 NE-10) got a pair of 8-2 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 behind the efforts of
Rebecca Fakas and
Karen Serina and
Elizabeth Kallenberg and
Samantha Perri. The sweep came courtesy of a game effort at No. 3, as
Vanja Savic and
Maria Bruzon Gutierrez edged Riley Kruger and Caroline Sumner of the Purple Knights (3-3, 2-2 NE-10), 8-6.Â
Five more wins went Adelphi's way in singles, led by Kallenberg edging Nicole Kellogg at No. 1, 6-3, 6-4 while Fakas and Perri posted identical 6-3, 6-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 4, resepctively. Savic, playing at her highest spot in the lineup this season, took a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 while Serina blanked Kruger in an eight-game pro set at No. 5.
