West Haven, Conn. -- The Adelphi University women's tennis team got back to its winning ways on Tuesday afternoon on the road, blanking the Chargers of the University of New Haven by a 9-0 final.
The Panthers (3-1, 3-1 NE-10) got things going early, as the teams of
Rebecca Fakas and
Karen Serina and
Elizabeth Kallenberg and
Samantha Perri rolled at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles without the loss of a game in either set.
Vanja Savic and
Maria Bruzon Gutierrez ensured the clean sweep for the Panthers in doubles, partnering to an 8-3 win at No. 3.
Keeping the momentum rolling in singles, Adelphi recorded double bagel wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No 5 as Kallenberg, Fakas, Perri and Savic all did not drop a game between them. The toughest test of the afternoon came for Bruzon Gutierrez, who rallied after dropping the first set to win in a match tiebreak, 1-6, 6-0, 10-6 to ensure the sweep in singles and the 9-0 shutout win.
