Eight Different Players Score in #1 Women's Lacrosse, 20-1 Victory Over Pace

Four different Panthers posted five points or more in the win.

Garden City, N.Y. - Four different players scored at least five points and eight members of the top ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team found the back of the net in a 20-1, Northeast-10 Conference victory over Pace University (5-4, 2-4 NE-10) tonight on Motamed Field.

Adelphi (9-0, 6-0 NE-10) was led by Jacqueline Jahelka and Emily Keesling, who both registered seven points. Jahelka on five goals and two assists, while Keesling scored three times and assisted on four Panther efforts. Danielle Montano set a new career-high for points in a game with six, courtesy of two goals and four helpers, while Kate Beier chipped in three tallies and two assists to the cause. Rachel Aitkens, Michele Scannell and Casey Zalewski combined for seven points on the evening, led by Aitkens three goals, while Scannell had two and Zalewski had one goal and one assist.

Ryley Weber and Kaitlyn Stackpole led a defensive effort that caused 13 turnovers and held the visiting Setters to just one goal. Weber caused four turnovers, while Stackpole caused three, Camille Rosellini and Jen Graham managed to force Pace into two turnovers each. Weber also led the Panthers in draw controls with four and Stackpole picked up a team-high three ground balls.

Taylor Hayes and and Hailey Peterson both saw action in goal, with Hayes making two stops and earning her ninth victory of the season.

Adelphi's Jahelka kicked off the scoring, finding the back of the net twice in the first 4:24 of play, her first tally coming just 1:49 into the action. Two of Beier's three goals came just over a minute a part and were sandwiched around a tally from Keesling, giving Adelphi a 5-0 lead with 23:14 left to play in the first half.

Pace's Michelle Antonio momentarily stemmed the tide, scoring off a Courtney Pabst feed, making it a 5-1 game with 19:00 to play. However, the Brown and Gold had an answer, scoring just 35 seconds later when Chelsea Abreu fed a streaking Jahelka for her third goal of the game and Adelphi's sixth, 6-1.

Jahelka's effort was the start of a run of 15 Adelphi goals that would go unanswered, ending with Chandley Borges' first goal of the game and the season at the 9:02 mark. Her score, off a pass from Montano, gave the Panthers their final margin of victory, 20-1.

Adelphi steps back between the lines on Friday, April 8 when they travel to North Andover, Massachusetts for a 4:00 pm Northeast-10 Conference contest with Merrimack College.
