Second Half Stumble Trips Up #5 Men's Lacrosse Against #2 Le Moyne, 13-6

The Panthers trailed by just one goal but were out scored 7-1 in the second half.

Syracuse, N.Y. - The fifth ranked Adelphi men's lacrosse team found themselves in a 5-1 first half hole this afternoon against #2 Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York, but entered halftime down just one, 6-5. However, the Panthers stumbled in the second half and were out scored by the Dolphins, 7-1 in a 13-6 Northeast-10 defeat.

Salvatore Tuttle led the Panther (11-4, 9-2 NE-10) attack with two goals and one assist, while Gordon Purdie, Jr. scored twice. Anthony Gomes and Paul Bentz were the only other members of the Brown and Gold to beat Le Moyne (14-0, 10-0) goalkeeper Alex Krawec, who made 12 stops, while Luke Spitzer was credited with one assist on the afternoon.

Defensively, Adelphi caused just two turnovers, which were credited to Purdie, Jr. and Joseph Catalanotti, while John English coontinued his dominance in the face-off circle, winning 16 of 22 attempts and grabbing a team high seven ground balls. John McGrath faced 37 shots on the afternoon and made eight stops.

Tuttle opened the scoring, finding the back of the Dolphin net just 76 seconds into the action. However, the hosts responded with five straight goals, holding Adelphi scoreless for over 22 minutes, building a 5-1 lead. The fifth and final Le Moybe tally of the five goal run came at the 6:06 mark of the second quarter, and was finally answered by the Panthers. Spitzer grabbed a ground ball off the face-off and found Gomes, who beat Krawec just 12 seconds after Le Moyne's tally.

Including Gomes' effort, Adelphi scored four of the next five goals, two of which came off the stick of Purdie, Jr. in man-up opportunities, entering the intermission down just one score, 6-5. Unfortunately, the Panthers momentum stalled in the second half. The hosts held Adelphi scoreless for the first 13:30 of the third quarter, while scoring two goals of their own. But, it was the final stanza that finally put the pesky Panthers away. The Dolphins found the back of the Adelphi net four times, while keeping Adelphi off the board, handing the Brown and Gold a 13-6 loss.

Adelphi concludes the regular season with a mark of 11-4 overall and 9-2 in the Northeast-10 securing third place in the conference. The Panthers will return to the field in the quarterfinals of Northeast-10 Championship.
