Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team tallied 24 hits en route to a 20-6 victory against Dominican College earlier this afternoon during non-conference action. The run total is the most for the Panthers (12-10) since a 20-18 win against UMass Lowell back on March 3, 2007.
Brandon Morse,
Robert Vani and
Steven Withers all tallied three hits on the afternoon as Vani supplied the long ball with a home run in the second inning. Morse added three runs scored and two RBIs while
Tyler Murphy came in to score four times. On the mound,
Ed Baram earned the victory by pitching five innings to start the game, allowing one run and striking out three.
The Brown and Gold jumped out early in the contest by scoring eight runs in the first two innings. Vani capped off the scoring rally of the first two innings with a two-run homer in the second inning to score
Michael Cattani. The Panther attack continued with six runs throughout the fourth, fifth and sixth innings off of nine hits. In the eighth inning, Adelphi matched that output with six additional runs to equal the 20-run total from nine years ago.
The lineup included 17 different individuals for Adelphi, and 12 different players scored a run. Cattani,
Alex Zykoff,
Jonathan Iadevaia and
Ray Triano as well as Murphy joined the three-hit tio with two hits each, giving eight Panthers multiple hits on the afternoon.
Jordan Milo added two RBIs on one hit while Withers posted two runs and two RBIs. Vani ended his afternoon with a 3-for-3 performance from the plate with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Today marked the first of seven straight home games for the Panthers, which will continue on Saturday with a 12 pm Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against Stonehill.
NOTES:
- Brett Malm extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a hit in the fifth inning.
- The 24 hits matches the same total from last year's 15-7 win against Dominican on April 23.
