Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Adelphi Athletics

#1 Women's Lacrosse Grounds the Owls, 18-2

Jacqueline Jahelka, Emily Keesling and Danielle Montano combined for 16 of Adelphi's 26 points.

Garden City, N.Y. - The top ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team used a balanced attack, getting goals from nine different players, to force their way past Southern Connecticut State, 18-2 this evening in a Northeast-10 Conference contest held on Motamed Field in Garden City.

With the win the Panthers run their current win streak to seven games and remain untarnished in the conference at 5-0, while the visiting Owls fall to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in NE-10 action.

The trio of Jacqueline Jahelka, Emily Keesling and Danielle Montano sparked the offense, combining for 16 points. Jahelka led the way with four goals and two assists, while Kessling added three tallies of her own and threw an assist in for good measure. Montano was credited with four helpers and found the back of the net once. Michele Scannell and Rachel Aitkens were the only other Panthers to score more then once, with Scannell scoring a career-high three times and Aitkens scoring twice.

The Brown and Gold also kept the pressure on Southern Connecticut on the defensive side of the ball, forcing 16 turnovers. Jahelka and Jen Graham led the way with three each, while Ryley Weber and Niki Stanco caused two turnovers apiece. Camielle Rosellini helped Adelphi control the tempo, collecting four draws, while Weber picked up three for the Panthers to go along with three ground balls.

Taylor Hayes and Hailey Peterson split time in net, making two saves each. Hayes was credited with the win and made a nice free position stop in the first half, while Peterson used some fancy footwork in the second half to turn an Owl effort aside.

The hosts took control of the game from the opening whistle, scoring early and often. Their first tally came just 55 seconds into the game off the stick of Keesling, after she knifed through the defense. That kicked off a run of 10 goals that was capped by a Jahelka finish off a Montano feed, essentially putting the game out of reach with 12:37 left to play in the first.

Carolynn Keal got the Owls on the board with 5:51 left, but Scannell answered just over 90 seconds later to reignite the Adelphi offense. Her goal jump started a second Brown and Gold run, an eight goal effort, that made it a, 18-1 contest after another Scannell effort with 14:36 left in the game. Southern Connecticut's Nicole Healey scored with 32 seconds left, but Adelphi walked away with an 18-2 win.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, April 2 when they travel up Glen Cove Road for a meeting with local rival and fourth ranked LIU-Post at 1:00 pm in Brookville.

Notes:
- Adelphi's last loss came in the month of April, a year ago against the University of New Haven, 10-5. Since then the Panthers have ripped off a string of 15 wins.
- The last time Adelphi and LIU-Post met was in the NCAA Division II Semifinals in 2014. The Panthers came out on top, 17-10. However, the Pioneers hold a, 11-9 edge in the all-time series.
- Jacqueline Jahelka's six points tonight, give her 203 (161G, 42A) for her career, making her just the 12th player in program history with more then 200 points.
- Rachel O'Brien currently has 111 assists, making her just the seventh player in school history to top the 100 assist plateau and putting her in fourth on the all-time list, one ahead of assistant coach Erica DeVito.
