Stonehill Gets Past Men's Basketball 103-101 In Overtime Of NE-10 Championship Quarterfinal

Garden City, N.Y. - A made 3-pointer at the top of the key from Ryan Logan with 22 seconds left in overtime lifted Stonehill to a 103-101 overtime victory against the Adelphi University men's basketball team earlier today during the Quarterfinal Round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, despite a 42-point performance from Anthony Libroia.

Logan scored the final five points of overtime to help the Skyhawks (21-7) advance in the Championship bracket. Libroia scored all 12 of the Panthers' (20-9) points in the extra session to help his team go up four on two occasions.

Libroia put forth one of the best postseason performances in Adelphi history, scoring a career-high 42 points including seven 3-pointers. The senior also added eight assists and four rebounds. Meanwhile, Manny Suarez posted a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Logan led the effort for Stonehill with a double-double of his own behind 36 points and 11 rebounds. Pierce Cumpstone added a full stat line of 27 points, nine rebounds, six blocks, and four assists while Isaiah Bess contributed 21 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Adelphi led for nearly 18 minutes of the first half, creating a lead as large as 12 points with 7:35 remaining in the period. However, the Skyhawks ended the half on an 18-6 run to have the game tied at 41 going into the break.

Suarez paced the Panthers in the opening stanza with 17 points, six rebounds, and two blocks with Libroia tossing in 11 points and four assists. Cumpstone led all scorers in the period with 18 points behind 7-of-9 shooting to go with Logan's 14 points and six rebounds.

Roles reversed in the second half as the Skyhawks were in the lead for the majority of the 20 minutes, including a 10-point advantage with 3:42 left in regulation after a Carter Smith layup. However, the Panthers managed their own rally as Libroia and Michael Coffey combined to score all 15 of the team's final points in the second period. Libroia scored seven points in the last 1:34, including the tying layup with 15 seconds left to force overtime at 89-89.

During the second half, Libroia and Coffey scored 36 of the team's 48 points, including four 3-pointers and 10 free throws. Libroia also dished out four assists. Cumpstone's defense was credited with five blocks in the second half to go along with nine points while Logan registered 14 points and Smith added 11.

In the overtime session, Libroia pushed the Brown and Gold to a four-point margin at 98-94 as well as 101-97. Still, a free throw from Bess followed by five unanswered points from Logan in the final 1:33 pushed the Skyhawks to a 103-101 victory as two opportunities for Adelphi fell short in the final moments.

Stonehill moves on to the NE-10 Championship Semifinal on Wednesday, with the opponent yet to be determined. Meanwhile, the Panthers await next Sunday's NCAA Selection Show to see if they have earned one of the eight seeds in the East Region.

Notes:
- The 17 made 3-pointers from Adelphi is a new NE-10 Championship record.
- In the latest released NCAA East Regional Rankings, the Panthers were slotted eighth.
