Fourth Quarter Rally Secures Women's Basketball Final Win of 2016, 56-44 Over Dominican

Orangeburg, N.Y. – A 12-point swing in the fourth quarter led the Adelphi University women's basketball team to a 56-44 non-conference win over the Chargers of Dominican College on Friday afternoon, as the Panthers close out the 2016 calendar year on a seven-game winning streak.

Sierra Clark pace the Panthers (11-2) in scoring with a game-high 23 points, while Calli Balfour joined her in double figures with 14 and a team-high eight rebounds. Simone Hobdy helped on the defensive effort with seven rebounds of her own, while Sierra Schrader dished out five assists. The Chargers (1-12) got a double-double from Lisa Bouffard with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

A defensive-minded first quarter saw four ties between the two sides, as neither team could open an advantage larger than three points after a game-opening triple from Dominican's Jacqueline Rywalt. After corralling a rebound with 1:05 to play in the period, Balfour took the ball to the hoop for two to give the Panthers an 11-10 and account for the final scoring of the frame.

Adelphi opened the second quarter on a 9-0 scoring run, which saw buckets from Balfour, Clark and a three from Schrader to create some distance, as the run expanded to 13-2 to make it a 24-12 Panther lead with 4:34 until the break. However, from there, the Chargers closed the period on a 10-4 run to shave the deficit to six at halftime, with Bouffard scoring six for the hosts in that span.

The Chargers' run continued in the second half, as they opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 28-28. The game featured two more ties from that point, and the hosts took a slim one-point lead at 35-34 headed to the fourth thanks to three made free throws from Bouffard at the line, as they held the Brown and Gold to six points in the period.

While Bouffard hit another two from the line to begin the final period to put the hosts up three, the Panthers responded in a big way for a game-winning 14-0 run over the next 4:28 to push out to a 48-37 lead when Hobdy converted on the layup and one with 4:32 remaining. In total, the Panthers used a 22-9 scoring push over the final 10 minutes to seal the rally and the win.

The Panthers return to action and NE10 play in 2017, when they welcome Franklin Pierce to the CRS on Jan. 4 at 5:30 pm.

NOTES
- Clark and Balfour currently rank third and fifth in the NE10 in scoring average, with 19.7 and 17.8 points per game, respectively.
- Adelphi came away with its lowest-scoring victory since a 53-39 win over Dominican last season, on Dec. 3.
