Balfour Drops 30 to Lead Women's Basketball to Fourth Straight Win, 66-53 Over Pace

Pleasantville, N.Y. -- Calli Balfour's second 30-point performance of the season paced the Adelphi University women's basketball team in a 66-53 Northeast-10 Conference victory over the Pace University Setters on Saturday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center.

Balfour, whose game-high 30 points came on 12-21 shooting from the floor and a career-high four three-pointers, led Adelphi (8-2, 6-0 NE10) to its fourth straight win, while Sierra Clark and Simone Hobdy combined for 25 points to account for the bulk of the Brown and Gold offense. Balfour also posted six steals, while Clark pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds, had four steals and blocked a shot for her effort on both sides of the ball, recording her eighth double-double of the season. Pace (6-5, 2-4 NE10) got a double-double from Christina Dodge thanks to 10 points and 14 rebounds, while Jackie Dellisanti added 11 points off the bench.

The Panthers' defense held the Setters to single-digit scoring in the first half, holding the Blue and Gold to eight points in the first quarter and five points in the second. On offense, Balfour got her afternoon off to a hot start, as she scored eight points in the opening period to help Adelphi build an 18-8 lead, while Hobdy scored the last five of the period on a three and a pair from the charity stripe.

After a Christina Rubin three made it an 18-11 game to start the second period, a 13-0 Adelphi run stamped the Brown and Gold's authority on the contest before the home team scored again at the 2:23 mark. In the run, Hobdy scored six and Sierra Schrader accounted for five, and the Adelphi defense held the Setters scoreless for nearly six minutes en route to a 33-13 halftime lead.

The Setters had a lengthy scoring run of their own in store out of the locker room, as the home team put together a 12-0 run to cut the lead to eight points, have held the Panthers scoreless for the first six minutes of the second half. A deep three off the hand of Niajah Morgan broke the drought with 3:57 on the clock in the quarter, and after an Alexanda Monteleone three again made it an eight-point game at 38-30, Balfour scored Adelphi's last eight points of the quarter on a layup and a pair of threes to push the lead back to 14, 46-32. A high-scoring final quarter saw the two teams combine for 41 points, but the Setters could not pull the deficit to less than 13 points over the course of the action.

The Panthers are back in action on Sunday, Dec. 18th when they travel to Bloomfield College for a 1:30 pm non-conference contest.
