Elmwood Park, N.J. -- Over the recent Halloween weekend, the Adelphi University bowling team traveled south to compete in the FDU New Jersey Jamboree. After three days of competition, the Panthers placed 15th overall and were anchored by Top 50 individual finishes by
Rebecca Gotterbarn and
Lena Sorrentino.
On the first day of play, the Panthers came out of the blocks strongly, winning five of the six matches they played. The biggest margin of victory for the Brown and Gold came in the second match of the afternoon, with a win over Jackson State by a margin of nearly 100 pins, 970-888. This victory was sandwiched around an opening 937-895 win over Wisconsin-Whitewater, and wins against fellow East Coast Conference teams Felician and Chestnut Hill as well as Bethune-Cookman.
On the second day in traditional play, the Panthers opened with a victory over Alabama-Birmingham, having been anchored by a 205 score from
Katelyn LaRocca. From that point, the Brown and Gold dropped four straight matches, with the highlight coming in the fourth match of the afternoon against the host Knights, as Sorrentino (223), Gotterbarn (216) and
Laura Zaugg (205) all cracked 200 pins.
Adelphi's 15th place finish was sealed on day three, as the Panthers fell to North Carolina A&T for the second time over the weekend, before again taking out Alabama-Birmingham to finish on a high note.
The Panthers are back in action over the weekend of Nov. 11, as they travel west to Wisconsin to compete in the Warhawk Classic.
NOTES
- Gotterbarn averaged an even 180 score to finish in 32nd place, while Sorrentino finished in 44th with a 175.2 average.
