Garden City, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University women's tennis team played the penultimate match of the regular season on Tuesday afternoon, blanking the College of Saint Rose 7-0 in Northeast-10 Conference action.
With both teams limited to just five players, the only matches contested were at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and No. 1-5 singles. In doubles, the Panthers (7-3, 7-3 NE-10) rolled to a pair of victories, dropping just one game in the two matches combined.
Rebecca Fakas and
Samantha Perri continued their good form after reaching the ITA East Regional semifinals to win 8-0 at No. 1, while
Karen Serina and
Vanja Savic won 8-1 at No. 2.
In singles, the Panthers didn't drop a set in five matches over the Golden Knights (0-10, 0-10 NE-10), losing a combined total of just six games in 10 sets. Winning first for the Panthers was
Maria Bruzon Gutierrez at No. 6, 6-2, 6-0 to put the lead at 3-0 for Adelphi. From there, Serina and Perri were perfect at their flights, double bageling opponents at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively, while Savic dropped just one game en route to victory at No. 3. Closing out the shutout was Fakas, who edged a closer first set before rolling in the second, 6-3, 6-0.
