Women's Tennis Clinches Playoff Berth with 7-2 Win Over Saint Anselm

Manchester, N.H. -- The Adelphi University women's tennis team clinched a spot in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship tournament for the seventh time courtesy of a 7-2 road victory over the Hawks of Saint Anselm College on Saturday morning.

The Panthers (8-4, 8-4 NE-10) swept doubles play to take command in the match, beginning with Rebecca Fakas and Karen Serina surrendering just two games in the top spot. Up next, Vanja Savic and Maria Bruzon Gutierrez took an 8-5 decision at No. 3, before Elizabeth Kallenberg and Samantha Perri edged the Hawks' No. 2 pair of Jess Perkins and Kaitlin Hughes, 8-6.

Serina dropped just three games in singles at No. 3 to complete the first singles match, putting Adelphi one match away from the win. While the Hawks then posted wins at No. 1 and No. 6 to halve the lead, a 6-0, 6-3 win for Perri at No. 4 proved to be the clincher. Kallenberg then won at No. 2 and Savic rallied from a set down to close out the match at No. 5 to complete the afternoon.
